White Tara and Medicine Buddha
Empowerments

Her Eminence Jetsun Kushok will bestow the empowerments of White
Tara and Medicine Buddha and will offer teachings in this long weekend
(Canadian Thanksgiving) program at Sea to Sky Retreat Centre. There's
no special prerequisite or commitment associated with these
empowerments. The retreat is open for all to attend.
White Tara Empowerment:
Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of compassion, manifested as Arya
Tara upon seeing the misery and suffering of the confused beings in the
world. Tara is the Swift Saviouress whose vow of compassion is to
respond immediately to the invocation and prayers of those in need.
Meditating on her as the embodiment of all enlightened qualities
enables us to transform ordinary emotions and concepts into pure
intention and accomplish the skillful means to benefit others. White
Tara is the embodiment of long life and wisdom. She is particularly
known for her maternal compassion which protects us from all kinds of
aliments and obstacles and heals all beings who are hurt or wounded,
either physically or psychically.
Medicine Buddha Empowerment:
The practice of Medicine Buddha, the Supreme Healer (or Sangye Menla
in Tibetan) is not only a very powerful method for healing and
increasing healing powers both for oneself and others, but also for
overcoming the inner sickness of attachment, hatred, and ignorance.
Thus to meditate on the Medicine Buddha can help decrease physical
and mental illness and suffering. The Medicine Buddha mantra is held
to be extremely powerful for healing physical illnesses and for the
purification of negative karma.
